IGN posted a really cool video, where game designers talk about the games that inspired them to pursue their careers in gaming. TXDL believes that the youth in Rexdale are every bit as capable to produce games that engage, captivate and inspire audiences—given the right support and encouragement.
Techsdale is a charity created to teach valuable tech skills to youth in the Rexdale neighbourhood of Toronto. Our goals are to help these youth express themselves through digital media and to diversify the tech sector by facilitating access to employability and internships.
Gaming culture (and if we’re being honest, tech culture as a whole) has been dogged by its diversity problem for quite a while. As time goes on though, the conversation becomes less about the need for tolerance than eliminating the social and financial harm inflicted by refusal to diversify. By leaving behind young people of colour we not only diminish their opportunities, but opportunities for tech industry growth as well.
